thinking, not teaching, in Scarsdale

Tex reminded me of this line from the Trailblazers implementation story:

Teachers are continuing to shift their emphasis from teaching material to focusing on children's thinking and learning.

  1. And that's when I begin to cry, "Poor children! Poor children!"
Somehow, teachers (or admins?) are still shifting to wrong direction... Our school is going to have "quality review" next week week. I have gotten a memo: "Keep desks in groups, display evidence of student-centered environment, recite with students the benefits of group work..." Hate it.

  2. I hear you.

(Exo - do you want to join so you can post your experiences??)

I'll need an email from you so I can send an invitation. (You can be anonymous; that's no problem. I just need an email to mail to.)

  3. I love the idea that you're supposed to "display evidence of a student-centered environment" as opposed to student achievement.

  4. Ed said the same thing, btw, when he finished reading.

He said, "This is all so sad."

He doesn't normally talk that way.
