We had our primary yesterday, and there was an estimated 55.71% turnout in this county, probably because so many people were furious with the school board (over money, not curriculum). All of the incumbents were tossed out yesterday.
Our guy lost (we bullet-voted for the man we thought most likely to fire the superintendent) but the whole thing was great.
Ed as at the train station after work & all 3 candidates were there handing out their material; citizens were flocking to the school to vote; balloons were up.
Toqueville on the Hudson.
I had a very nice moment afterwards.
I was disappointed that our guy lost (he had lots of votes; it wasn't a rout).
But I was glad the other two guys won.
I had the strongest feeling that this was a case of "the people have spoken" -- and that the people know what they're talking about.
The school board decided that it would be a better idea to tear down the school and build a new one, instead of renovating the current one. People here were incensed, to say the least.

Our latest is many, many bomb threats - 5 this year thus far.
Our board built the middle school next door to the high school (parents objected) then attached the two buildings with a long, straight corridor with classrooms on only one side & windows on the other.
So now we're having bomb threats left in the bathroom in the corridor; the kids are receiving collective punishments; the bathrooms are locked for the remainder of the year -- and I learned today that one of the bomb threats this year was in fact left by a high school kid.
wow!
ReplyDeleteWe had our election -- it was wonderful.

Some good days in Irvington.
55.71% is a massive turnout for a county school board election.
ReplyDeleteIt was all about 115 million dollars.
