Absolutely. We have our hotheads, but so far, things remain very civil. You know you are going to bump into the opponents on the sidelines of the field, the grocery store, . . .
I'm hoping that realization will keep things in check when we take up football and the athletic fields next fall.
It's humbling to watch the democratic process at work. But I remain distrustful. That is best.

ReplyDeleteIt's wild and woolly!
We've had an outbreak of democratic action around here.
I like it.
It's tricky in a small town.... but in some ways the smallness is a "check and balance."
ReplyDeletePeople know they have to live with each other tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteIrvington got through it in one piece, and the defeat of the bond was both very unexpected and terribly disappointing to many people.
I kept wondering why there wasn't more rancor (at least, why there wasn't more rancor that I was picking up on ....)
Finally a person who voted for the bond told me that many of the people she knew were relieved when it didn't pass.
Our school board wrote an incredible statement after the vote.
They said there had been reluctant no votes and "many yes votes with reservations."
That was beautiful.
