I scored 4 out of 7.
I would have scored 5, but I misread one of the questions. (Yes, that's ironic.)
Off the top of your head, what would you say the answer to this one is:
Albert Shanker, President of the American Federation of Teachers, is quoted as saying that what percentage of "the kids who go to college in the United States would not be admitted to college anywhere else in the world."?
pop quiz
I also scored 5.
ReplyDeleteSome of their statistics are pretty old:
"Albert Shanker stated, "Ninety-five percent of the kids who go to college in the United States would not be admitted to college anywhere else in the world."
Source: Carol Innerst, "Schools 'Really Bad' Says AFT Leader," The Washington Times, July 6, 1990 as quoted in Dr. Bill Bennett's book The Index of Leading Cultural Indicators (New York: Simon & Schuster, 1994), p. 89, an excellent source for educational and other measures of America 's social problems."<
Another 5 here. I was too optimistic, and estimated that 15% of US college students would make the cut for university entrance in other parts of the world. I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteI was also too optimistic about the level of functional illiteracy in the workplace.
I got a 6/7 just by picking the worst possible choice for each one.
ReplyDeleteTheir answer for Q5 is wrong. The U.S. was in the middle of the pack on the most recent international test comparisons. That's nothing to be proud of given that we spend more per-pupil than almost any other country, but it's not as bad as the site is making it out to be.
