There are all kinds of great comments in the Spam Box, and when I OK them they don't show up in "Recent Comments," apparently because they are Old Comments nobody ever got a chance to read.
Trying to figure out how to point people to them -- lots of great stuff on SAT & AP....
I've had several instances where KTM has deleted a comment of mine immediately after I posted it. At first I thought it was related to the length of the comment, because splitting it in two sometimes solved the problem. But it has now happened to some 4- or 5-line comments, too, so I don't know what it is.
Maybe Blogger occasionally concludes that I'm a Nigerian government minister offering to lower your credit card debt with FREE CASH from a multi-level marketing opportunity that involves selling Viagra.
(Now that I've played keyword bingo, let's see where this comment ends up!)
Well, that didn't work. When the problem occurs, these comments are posted briefly, then they disappear in less than five seconds, so Blogger is receiving the post, then some automated feature decides to remove it. Other Blogger sites have been complaining of the same problem for years. The only responses have suggested that the blog host configure commenting to require that they be written in a popup window instead of in a text box on the comments page. KTM is already configured that way, and I don't see any replies from Google support ("Google support" seems to be a bit of an oxymoron).
Blogger clearly thinks Glen is a Nigerian government minister offering to lower our credit card debt with FREE CASH from a multi-level marketing opportunity that involves selling Viagra.
Glen has the honor of being the most-often flagged commenter, I think.
btw, I'm planning to switch to Disqus but now, of course, I'm fretting over what that's going to do to the 80 comments still sitting in the spam box....

Wow. Do I get a trophy or something? Many years before the 9/11 attacks, I was informed by the CEO of our consulting firm that I had been flagged as the employee most likely to be kidnapped by terrorists.

Some people have all the luck!
I could hardly believe it when I saw all your comments stacked up ---- lordy. I love your comments; maybe Google was saving them all in one place for me ----
I approved a whole bunch of yours -- until I realized the approved comments were going into a black hole where I couldn't read them unless I went back through every post written over the past god knows how many moons and re-read all the attached comments.

Just what every aspiring writer wants to hear from his publisher. Love what you sent us, Darling. We would pick it up in a heartbeat, except, well---I'm sure you understand---but, really, it's fabulous. We absolutely MUST do lunch. Mwa. Ta!
This is extremely annoying.

thanks for setting 'em free anyhow.
ReplyDelete"recent comments" isn't as useful
as it might appear anyhow unless
one is following pretty regularly:
comments come pretty hard and fast
around here.
v.
How about selecting the best, grouping under a couple of heading (SAT, AP, whatever) and posting them as "Potpourri"?

ReplyDeleteGlen, there are a gazillion fabulous comments from you all flagged!
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is: there were two flagged comments from me. I didn't even notice (short attention span theater).
When I read my two comments, I thought they deserved to be flagged as spam, so I deleted both - !
Here's the crazy thing: Google won't let me cut and paste those comments. I can't 'blue them in.'
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to figure out what would be the most efficient way to handle this.
Unfortunately, I already OKed a bunch without noticing what posts they were attached to -- so I can't direct you to them.

Pretty sure lgm comes next.

ReplyDeleteRight!
That was my first thought, and then I discovered I can't copy the comments.
I could take screen grabs....but that's a lot of work, so I'm trying to figure out if there's a more efficient way.
Maybe note where the comments are going to be attached & send people to those old posts --- ?
Hi v!
ReplyDeleteBlogger seems to approve of you!
Didn't see any v-comments in the Spam Box.
btw, I'm planning to switch to Disqus but now, of course, I'm fretting over what that's going to do to the 80 comments still sitting in the spam box....
ReplyDeleteCatherine,
ReplyDeleteYou say you can't copy and paste them in. Does that mean you can't copy them at all, or just that you can't copy/paste them in a easy 1-2 punch?
I'm able to copy comments that have been published. Is that different? I'm using a Mac.
I can't copy them at all!
ReplyDeleteIt's extremely strange.
I can copy anything that's been published on the blog but not the comments stacked up in the Spam Box.
I'll try again & see what happens.

And now this. The honors keep stacking up.

But Blogger probably now thinks you're OK.
So you can start peddling the Nigerian Viagra!
