Stop making sense

From Andrew Cuomo's campaign ad:
I want to invest $2 billion dollars to build the new technology classrooms of tomorrow. And I still believe the best education equipment is the kitchen table, and the best teacher is the parent.
-Andrew Cuomo
Needless to say, I will be voting 'No' on Proposition 3.

  1. You can buy a whole lot of kitchen tables for 2 billion dollars.

  2. "You can buy a whole lot of kitchen tables for 2 billion dollars."

Then you are doing it wrong(ly).

    *) 12' Mayline Corsica Conference Table: ~$3,000
    *) Aeron chairs: ~$600 each

Figure a classroom of 30 kids (hey, everyone keeps complaining about overcrowding). Figure 4 tables and 32 chairs (we want a few spares): $12,000 + $19,200. Maybe we get a bulk discount, so $30K per classroom. Replace every five years (why? Because we can!)

  3. Thanks for posting this. I was not aware that nontech spending is allowed. My district will undoubtedly use it for building classroom space for the students who are currently in BOCES programs off campus..

  4. I think it really depends on what kind of parents sit at your kitchen table. Mine were not capable of helping me with math after grade 5 or 6, and told me as much. (Or, I should say "would not have been," since they never provided any sort of homework help before those grades.)

    (I voted no also.)
