I've tried various different "Recent Comments" widgets & all of them display the same year-old comments.
Any ideas?
And: how do I report this to Blogger? (I'm sure I can track it down, but I'd rather not spend time doing it if someone knows where to go.)

You can use the feed gadget blogger provides. It only shows five feeds at a time but it will keep your comment widget alive until you figure out what is going on.
1) go to edit layout
2) click on add gadget
3) choose feed
4) input your RSS or Atom info for your comments
5) label, choose number of comments, and get it running
