Mary Damer asks Barack Obama a question

One of my heroes. I finally ordered her book last week. (Was holding off only because of cost.)

It seems Mary Damer hosted a platform meeting for Obama at her home.

An education platform based on rigorous research (Platform Meeting)

High quality research informs us how to increase achievement for students who are at risk or have disabilities, but too often that research is ignored in 20th century schools. This platform meeting will focus on helping Barack Obama develop an effective education platform that will lead to increased student achievement in high poverty schools and for students with disabilities.

Hopefully, she's got his ear.

I've been contemplating the reaction of Obama's win among teachers in my northern Virginia district. Almost all of them despise NCLB. The district is heavy with balanced literacy and math programs like TERC.

Loudoun County in general went heavily for Obama, yet our county's referrals for special education services is below the average for the state and neighboring counties.

concerned - she had a fantastic post on Obama's blog (or web site?) -- but I think I've lost the link.

Do you have it?

I'm pretty sure I already posted that piece here, but I'd like to have the link anyway...

Mary Damer is one of my heroes, too. I think I have saved nearly every post she has made to the online groups (3, I think) that I belong to where she makes regular contributions. She's a font of knowledge in a wide variety of areas.

She has also co-written, with Elaine McEwan, and outstanding book entitled "Managing Unmanageable Sudents"

see here: Damer book

It's written for administrators but I've found it invaluable, and am using some of the materials in it right now to get meaningful baseline data on a couple of tough cases.
