greatest hits, part 4

news from nowhere (you may need to hit refresh a couple of times)

I just asked Christopher about this. He got the same assignment, but all he had to do was say how smoking would affect his 5 life goals.

No mention of cancer of the tongue.

The middle school in 2005/2006 was a very strange place. This year it's just been bomb threats and character ed 24/7.

From my son's 5th grade health class this year (do all these teachers go to the same training sessions? I'm starting to think LESS money for teacher training might be BETTER):

The kids were asked to stand up and share with their classmates, if they had three wishes, what would they be?

Then the teacher handed each child a letter in an envelope, told them to open it, and read it. Here is what it said:

"Dear 5th Grader,

"I am sorry to inform you, but your test results are back and I am afraid I have bad news. The results of your tests confirm that you have a terminal disease. There is no cure or treatment for this horrible disease and all medical professionals I have talked with agree that life as you know it will be over in approximately two weeks.

"I am very sorry,

"Sincerely,

"Dr. [teacher's name]"

Then they were asked to share how their wishes would change in view of this "news."

This was supposed to help them learn to "value" their "health."
